1 Tablespoon | vegetable oil |
2 Large | sweet onion |
1 1/2 Teaspoon | Sugar |
1 Teaspoon | garlic salt |
1 Teaspoon | Black pepper |
1/2 Teaspoon | dried thyme |
1/2 Cup | beef bouillon |
1 Tablespoon | Worcestershire sauce |
1 Tablespoon | bourbon |
1 1/2 Cup | sour cream |
8 Ounce | cream cheese |
2 Tablespoon | Chives, fresh |
1
When ready to cook, set the grill temperature to 250 degrees and preheat, lid closed for 15 minutes.
2
Put the butter and vegetable oil in a disposable foil pan and place it on the grill grate. When the butter is melted, stir in the onions (diced), sugar, garlic salt, pepper, and thyme.
3
Combine the beef bouillon, Worcestershire sauce, and bourbon, if using, in a glass measuring cup and pour half over the onions.
4
Return the pan to the grill grate and cook the onions, stirring occasionally, adding more sauce if needed, until they are soft and golden brown (about 45 minutes to 1 hour). Let the onions cool completely.
5
While onions are cooking, combine the sour cream and cream cheese in a large mixing bowl and stir until smooth.
6
Stir in the cooled onions and chives, if using. Add more salt and pepper to taste.
7
Cover and chill until serving. Serve with crudites or potato chips. Enjoy!
