Secret Ingredient BBQ Beef Short Ribs

Shhh, it's a secret. But since you're here, I guess we'll let you into the flavor vault. Chili sauce, root beer, and onions form a delectable braising sauce for beef short ribs. Whip some up for friends, and they'll be begging for the secret combination.

1 BottleTraeger Chili BBQ Sauce
1 CupHigh Quality Root Beer Soda
1 Tablespoonchopped thyme
1 LargeSweet Onion, sliced into rings
4 Poundbone-in beef short ribs

  • Step 1

    In a medium bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, root beer, and thyme leaves.

    Ingredients
    • 1 Bottle Traeger Chili BBQ Sauce

    • 1 Cup High Quality Root Beer Soda

    • 1 Tablespoon chopped thyme

  • Step 2

    Arrange the onions evenly in the bottom of a 9" x 13" pan.

    • 1 Large Sweet Onion, sliced into rings

  • Step 3

    Season the short ribs on all sides with salt and pepper. Lay in a single layer on top of the onions.

    • 4 Pound bone-in beef short ribs

    • As Needed salt and pepper

  • Step 4

    Pour the chili-root beer sauce evenly over the ribs. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil.

  • Step 5

    When ready to cook, set the Traeger to 300℉ and preheat, lid closed for 15 minutes.

  • Step 6

    Place the pan of ribs on the grill grate; cook for 2 to 3 hours, or until the ribs are tender but not falling off the bone.

  • Step 7

    Add a bit more root beer to the pan if the dish does not seem as saucy as you would like.
