FAQS
Commonly asked question about the Flatrock Griddle
What is the difference between a 2 zone and 3 zone?
The main difference between these two griddles is size – the Flatrock 3 Zone has, you guessed it, three cooking zones and a total cooking space of 594 square inches, the 2 Zone has 2 cooking zones and 468 square inches of cooking space.
Additionally, the Flatrock 3 Zone has burner indicator lights, a fuel gauge, and an electric ignitor. The Flatrock 2 Zone has windows for you to see if the burners are lit, no fuel gauge, and a piezo ignitor.
What makes Flatrock better than other griddles on the market?
At Traeger, we're obsessed with product quality. The Flatrock is made from better components and rock solid design that's built to last. Backed by a 5-year limited warranty, Flatrock is the highest-quality flat-top cooking tool on the market.
I already have a grill. Why do I need a griddle?
Griddles do a completely different kind of cooking than a gas or pellet grill.
Griddles are great for fast, active cooking experiences that you can’t make on a grill. They are an incredibly easy way to make breakfast feasts, philly cheese steaks, mountains of smashed burgers, and a whole lot more.
What’s assembly of a Flatrock like?
Assembly of a Flatrock is relatively simple, but we do recommend recruiting a buddy and having a chilled 6-pack on hand. Assembly usually takes about 30-40 minutes. There are assembly guides in the box, as well as in the Traeger app. Required tools are also included in the box.
Once assembled, you’ll need to hook up a propane tank and get the griddle seasoned before you start smashing those burgers.
What’s so great about a U-Burner?
There are two main types of burners in flat top griddles: U burners, and stick burners. Stick burners concentrate a lot of heat in one area, and typically result in cold spots between each burner. U burners cover more real estate under the griddle, which provides even heat over your entire cooking space.
What does “recessed cooktop” mean?
The Traeger Flatrock series has unique construction that has the griddle sit into a fully-surrounded enclosure. This is different than other griddles, where the cook top sits up above the grill, leaving about a half-inch gap all the way around. This is begging for wind to come in and ruin your cook out. The recessed cooktop means that wind is blocked from blowing out your burners on all sides, and results in more even and consistent heat throughout your cook.
Can this be hooked up to natural gas?
No, use liquid propane only.
DO I HAVE TO USE A BATTERY TO LIGHT THIS GRILL?
The 2 Zone Flatrock does not have any electric start component, so there is no battery required. The 3 Zone Flatrock can ignite using a 9 volt battery or by plugging the grill into an outlet. However, if the 3 zone Flatrock is not plugged in, the flame sensors and fuel sensor will not work. If you do not have access to electricity on your patio, you may want to consider the 2 zone.
Is this pre-seasoned?
Your Flatrock is not pre-seasoned and will need to be seasoned before use. We recommend using our seasoning oil for best results. You should season your griddle before your first cook to help create a flavorful and non-stick surface.
Can I cook with the lid closed?
Your lid should never be closed while cooking. This traps in too much heat, and can damage your new griddle.
What is Traeger’s warranty?
All Flatrocks are backed by Traeger’s 5-year limited warranty.
