Step 1
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal 8-ounce portions. Wet your hands with cold water and shape each portion into a patty about 4 inches in diameter and 3/4 inch thick. Try not to overwork the meat. Season the patties on both sides with salt and pepper.

When ready to cook, set the Traeger temperature to 500˚F and preheat with the lid closed 15 minutes.

Step 3
Place the hamburger patties directly on the grill grates. Cook with the lid closed for 6 minutes, then flip the patties and close the lid again. Reduce the Traeger temperature to 195℉. For optimal flavor, use Super Smoke, if available. Continue cooking the burgers until a thermometer inserted into the center of a patty registers 160℉, 6-7 minutes more. The last few minutes of cooking, top each patty with a slice of cheese and place the buns on grill to toast.
